This three-day global conference is set to occur from January 21 to 23 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
During the meeting at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM), Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi provided insights to the CEOs on the framework, goals, and operational details of IICDEM 2026, delineating their roles and responsibilities leading up to the event.
After the opening address, the CEOs engaged in discussions across 36 thematic groups, each headed by a designated CEO. These themes cover essential areas of election management, aiming to build a comprehensive repository of knowledge by leveraging the varied experiences of Election Management Bodies (EMBs) from around the world.
IICDEM 2026 promises to be the largest international conference of its nature hosted by India, focusing on democracy and election management. The event will welcome approximately 100 international delegates from EMBs globally, along with representatives from international organizations, foreign missions in India, and top academic and professional experts in electoral processes.
The conference will feature a variety of general and plenary sessions, including the Inaugural Session, EMB Leaders’ Plenary, EMB Working Group Meetings, and the launch of ECINET. It will also include numerous thematic sessions centered on global electoral challenges, international electoral standards, and innovations and best practices in election management.
Prominent academic institutions participating in these discussions will include four IITs, six IIMs, 12 National Law Universities (NLUs), and the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC). A total of 36 thematic groups, spearheaded by CEOs from states and Union Territories and supported by national and international academic experts, will enrich the discussions.
