Indore, March 22 (NationPress) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has executed a raid under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in the significant commercial hub of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, linked to a case of financial misconduct, an official reported on Saturday.
The individual subjected to the searches was Dr. Rajesh Kothari, a retired senior health official from a government hospital run by the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC).
ED agents conducted an extensive search and retrieved numerous documents related to disproportionate assets from Dr. Kothari's residence.
The operation was executed under stringent security measures provided by Madhya Pradesh police.
The agency announced on Saturday that it has provisionally attached immovable properties valued at approximately Rs 1.31 crore, stating that the raid was part of an ongoing investigation concerning the disproportionate assets case against Dr. Kothari, who concluded his service in 2017.
According to the ED's statement, "ED Indore has provisionally attached immovable properties amounting to Rs 1.31 crore (approx.) under the stipulations of the PMLA, 2002, as part of an investigation related to a disproportionate assets case against Rajesh Kothari, the former Health Officer associated with Indore Municipal Corporation."
The ED's action is linked to a case registered against Dr. Kothari under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act during his tenure in 2011.
Initially, a case was filed citing corruption by the Lokayukta police of Madhya Pradesh while Dr. Kothari was still in service in 2011.
The Lokayukta had also conducted a raid at his home and other locations in the city. Subsequently, the ED registered a case under the PMLA and initiated a distinct investigation into the matter.
