Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 11 (NationPress) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has initiated comprehensive search operations linked to a money laundering investigation involving Earth Infrastructures Ltd (EIL) and its affiliated entities, resulting in the confiscation of significant quantities of cash, jewellery, bullion, and luxury timepieces.
The operations took place on April 10 by the ED's Delhi Zonal Office under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. In total, 10 locations in Delhi and Gurugram associated with the directors, promoters, and related entities of the Earth Group were searched during the raids.
During these searches, officials uncovered cash approximating Rs 6.3 crore, jewellery valued at about Rs 7.5 crore, alongside silver bullion and numerous premium luxury watches.
This investigation arises from five FIRs filed by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police against Earth Infrastructures Ltd, its directors, and associated entities on various counts under the IPC, including cheating, criminal breach of trust, and conspiracy.
Moreover, the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) has lodged a criminal complaint under Section 447 of the Companies Act against the company's promoters and directors.
The ED reports that the Earth Group has launched several real estate initiatives branded as “Earth” throughout Delhi-NCR, Gurugram, Greater Noida, and Lucknow. Notable projects include Earth Towne, Earth Sapphire Court, Earth Copia, Earth Techone, Earth Iconic, Earth Titanium, Earth Elacasa, Earth Gracia, and Earth Skygate.
Investigations have indicated that the firm amassed roughly Rs 2,024.45 crore from over 19,425 homebuyers and investors by assuring timely delivery of both residential and commercial properties with guaranteed returns.
However, despite the sizable funds obtained, many projects were either unfinished or the possession was not granted.
The ED further disclosed that these funds were purportedly redirected to acquire land in Gurugram, Delhi, and Rajasthan under the names of group companies and family members, utilizing shell entities for money routing, financing personal land transactions, and providing advances to unrelated businesses.
Reportedly, funds were also utilized to pay salaries to family members who did not hold active roles, with some dissipated through property sales.
Key figures implicated in this case include Avdhesh Kumar Goel, Rajnish Mittal, Atul Gupta, and Vikas Gupta.
Further investigation has also unveiled the diversion of criminal proceeds through group entities such as Lavender Infratech Pvt Ltd, Dhurav Real Estate Developers Pvt Ltd, Murlidhar Infracon Pvt Ltd, Banke Bihari Farming Pvt Ltd, Julian Infracon Pvt Ltd, among others for property acquisition and dissipation.
The investigation is ongoing.
