Amaravati, Jan 1 (NationPress) - On Thursday, the Election Commission of India (ECI) engaged in discussions with a delegation from the Jana Sena Party to gather their insights on electoral reforms.
The meeting took place at Nirvachan Sadan in New Delhi and included Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar along with Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi.
The Jana Sena delegation was represented by E. Pratap Kumar and R.M.V. Sumanth. However, the party has not released a statement detailing the recommendations provided during their meeting with the ECI.
The Jana Sena Party (JSP), which is led by Pawan Kalyan, the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, is part of the ruling coalition in the state, which is headed by the Telugu Desam Party.
The ECI has been actively meeting with leaders from recognized political parties to enhance the electoral processes within the current legal framework. The Commission is encouraging suggestions from all national and state political parties.
In March 2025, the ECI planned to engage in discussions with party presidents and prominent leaders at convenient times to explore ways to strengthen the electoral process in accordance with established laws.
Additionally, the ECI has urged political parties to make use of decentralized engagement mechanisms with election authorities.
Earlier in July, the ECI met with a delegation from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), which recommended improvements in the verification of electoral rolls through regular third-party audits conducted under the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India to identify discrepancies.
The TDP also called for the initiation of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in Andhra Pradesh at an early date and insisted that any deletion of voter names should follow a reasoned order, proper notification, and an opportunity for the elector to respond.
Furthermore, the TDP proposed the implementation of AI-driven tools to identify duplication, migration, and deceased entries in real-time to enhance electoral roll management.
The TDP, a coalition partner in the BJP-led NDA government at the national level, has put forth these suggestions to improve transparency and fortify the electoral framework.
Lavu Krishna Devarayalu, the leader of the TDP Parliamentary Party, submitted a letter outlining the party's recommendations to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
