New Delhi, Oct 15 (NationPress) The upward trend in Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR), signifying a rise in employment, has persisted for the third consecutive month, with the overall participation rate achieving a remarkable 5-month peak of 55.3 percent in September, as stated by the Ministry of Statistics on Wednesday.
The involvement of females in the workforce continues to rise, with the LFPR for women aged 15 years and above reaching 34.1 percent in September 2025, marking the highest level since May 2025. This consistent increase in rural female participation underscores a trend towards greater economic inclusion, as highlighted in the statement.
Moreover, the overall LFPR in rural areas has shown a steady increase from 56.1 percent in June to 57.4 percent in September. In contrast, the LFPR in urban regions remained stable at 50.9 percent compared to August 2025 for individuals aged 15 years and above, according to the report.
The overall Worker Population Ratio (WPR) in September 2025 was noted at 52.4 percent, the highest since May 2025 for individuals aged 15 and older. This increase is largely attributed to the rise of the female workforce, particularly in rural zones. The overall WPR for females aged 15 years and above has seen a consistent rise for three months, advancing from 30.2 percent in June to 32.3 percent in September 2025, as per the statement.
In rural areas, the female workforce has expanded over the last three consecutive months, climbing from 33.6 percent in June 2025 to 36.3 percent in September 2025, the report noted.
The Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS), conducted by the National Statistics Office, serves as the key source of data on workforce participation and employment-unemployment conditions across the population. The PLFS methodology has been revised as of January 2025 to offer monthly and quarterly estimates of labour force indicators throughout the nation.
Monthly findings from the PLFS are published in the form of Monthly Bulletins, providing estimates of critical labour market indicators such as Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR), Worker Population Ratio (WPR), and Unemployment Rate (UR) at a national level, following the Current Weekly Status (CWS) approach.
