Moscow, Nov 25 (NationPress) Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated on Tuesday that European nations have squandered their chances to effectively contribute to the resolution of the Ukrainian crisis.
"Each time progress was made and agreements were established—whether they were interim or more stable, long-term solutions—these agreements were subsequently violated," the Russian state-run news agency TASS reported Lavrov as saying during a press conference in Moscow.
“Currently, as our European partners proclaim loudly that no new Minsk agreements will emerge and that no resolution can occur without Europe—because this situation directly affects us—I must emphasize that Europe has utterly failed since 2014,” he continued.
Lavrov went on to say: "So when Europe states now: 'Don’t you dare act without us,' you had your opportunities, yet you chose not to utilize them; you simply failed to act."
He further remarked that Russia does not view France and Germany as potential mediators in resolving the conflict.
"The Minsk process was a negotiation between Russia and Ukraine, supposedly mediated by France and Germany. However, mediation by either France or Germany is now out of the question," Lavrov stated.
In contrast, the Foreign Minister expressed gratitude for Washington's stance, highlighting its proactive role in addressing the Ukrainian conflict.
"We value the mediation efforts of Belarus, Turkey, and Hungary, which is keen to host a summit between Russia and the United States proposed by President Donald Trump," said Lavrov.
"Moreover, we appreciate the position of the United States itself, the only Western country taking the initiative to explore solutions for the conflict, in contrast to London, Brussels, Paris, and Berlin. I reiterate our appreciation," he added.
Reportedly, the Trump administration devised a new 28-point plan and engaged in discreet, in-depth discussions with Russia to reinvigorate peace talks aimed at concluding the Ukraine crisis.
Confirming that Moscow has received President Trump’s Ukraine plan through unofficial channels, Lavrov stated that Russia is open to discussing it.
“We have received it through unofficial channels; it was not sent to us officially. However, as the [Russian] president mentioned, we are prepared to examine its content as there are several issues requiring clarification,” the Minister noted.
“Our American colleagues have not yet provided us with the version speculated upon in the media,” he added.
