Bengaluru, Nov 22 (NationPress) In light of the ongoing leadership struggles within Karnataka's ruling Congress, Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy has suggested that the state is on the brink of significant political upheaval.
While addressing party members during the JD-S Silver Jubilee celebrations in Bengaluru on Saturday, he remarked that the current political climate indicates that "unforeseen and unexpected events are likely to take place in the upcoming days".
He expressed that the political landscape had become so volatile that it was difficult to anticipate anyone's next move.
"Surprising and explosive developments are inevitable in Karnataka's political arena," Kumaraswamy asserted.
He subtly alluded to the unrest within the ruling Congress, stating: "With political transformations occurring daily, it seems plausible that the state may experience a significant political upheaval within a few months."
Kumaraswamy urged party members to stay connected with the public and address their challenges, emphasizing the widespread frustration over inadequate governance, escalating taxes, and soaring prices.
"Give our party a chance. I will demonstrate what effective governance is and what we can achieve for the citizens in just five years. If I fail to deliver a government that earns the people’s trust, I will not seek your support again," he pledged.
He criticized the state's financial situation, revealing that Karnataka's debt had surpassed Rs 7.50 lakh crore. “During his tenure, Siddaramaiah alone has accrued between Rs 5 to Rs 5.50 lakh crore in loans. What was this massive debt for? The people deserve answers,” he stressed.
Kumaraswamy accused political rivals of tarnishing the reputation of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, asserting: "Deve Gowda dedicated his life to the public. He never sought power from anyone. Even when the late former CM Devaraj Urs personally invited him to join forces, he declined."
He highlighted that Deve Gowda has always maintained integrity and principles in politics.
"This man has faced unfounded allegations. They claimed he relied on astrology, lured astrologers into traps, and deceived him. They even propagated falsehoods that he purchased 500 plots in Mysuru," Kumaraswamy stated vehemently.
He pointed out that several investigations by CID and Lokayukta were conducted against Deve Gowda, concluding that "in the end, the truth emerged. The people of the state are aware of who Deve Gowda really is."
The Minister noted that the JD-S has thrived due to the support of the public and party workers.
"We have contributed positively to the community. What injustices have we committed against this state? What wrongs has Deve Gowda perpetrated? Why have we not received full support? Our party has never acted unjustly towards any group. Why do people from other states respect Deve Gowda, yet our own do not?" he questioned.
He alleged that the Congress Government in Karnataka was exploiting the state under the guise of guarantee schemes.
He accused the Congress-led administration of fracturing society through the caste census. "They cannot engage in politics through development, so they resort to underhanded tactics for political advantage," he claimed.
Addressing Siddaramaiah's extensive political journey, Kumaraswamy asked: "He has held power for 25–30 years. What has he contributed to this state? He has been Dy CM, CM, and Leader of Opposition. What has he accomplished? You have hollowed out Bengaluru and then labeled it Greater Bengaluru. You divided Bengaluru, appointed five mayors -- what have you truly achieved?"
Kumaraswamy concluded by emphasizing his opportunity to serve on a national scale. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has entrusted me with a role in the Union Cabinet. I have revived the Visakhapatnam Steel Factory in Andhra Pradesh. I will also rejuvenate the Sir M. Visvesvaraya Steel Factory in Bhadravathi. I will repay the debt I owe to the people of this state,” he stated.
