Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Dec 6 (NationPress) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday commended the vision and insight of the architect of the Constitution, Dr B. R. Ambedkar, in shaping the nation and energy policies.
Following the tribute to Bharat Ratna Dr B.R. Ambedkar at Chaityabhoomi on the occasion of Mahaparinirvan Diwas, he emphasized the transformative influence of the Constitution and Dr Ambedkar's strategic choices in the growth of infrastructure.
He asserted that Dr Ambedkar converted societal challenges into an opportunity for strength, acquiring knowledge, and sowing the seeds of equality within society.
CM Fadnavis remarked, "A significant inequality had emerged in our nation, denying many the fundamental right to live as human beings. In response, Dr Ambedkar utilized this very inequality as a source of strength, gained knowledge, ignited a great awakening in society, and provided us a Constitution that established a framework of equality."
The Chief Minister attributed the nation’s progress to the Constitution, which has positioned India as the world’s fourth-largest economy, with aspirations of advancing to third place.
"This progress was initiated by the Constitution-maker and economist Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar," he added.
He mentioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's belief that the Constitution holds precedence over any other sacred text, labeling the Indian Constitution as the finest globally, where "every answer can be found."
CM Fadnavis highlighted Dr Ambedkar's intellectual foresight by referencing a recent discussion with the Governor of New Jersey.
"The Governor of New Jersey recently met with me and noted that areas in New York and New Jersey still experience electricity shortages due to the existence of a State Grid rather than a National Grid," he stated.
The Chief Minister pointed out that when Dr Ambedkar took on the role of Minister of Electricity, his initial move was to establish a National Grid throughout India.
"Thanks to his foresight, we can now transmit electricity from any part of India to another. What a developed nation like America failed to realize, Dr Ambedkar foresaw, providing India with a plan for self-sufficiency," he added.
Regarding the long-delayed project of the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar memorial at Indu Mill in Dadar, Mumbai, the Chief Minister set a definitive completion timeline.
He declared that efforts would be made to finish the world-class memorial, which will include a 450-foot-tall statue of Dr Ambedkar, by the next Mahaparinirvan Diwas.
PM Modi had laid the foundation stone for the project in October 2015, and the government aims to finalize the ongoing work by December 2026.
