Mumbai, March 24 (NationPress) Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday promised decisive action against Kunal Kamra and stated that the government will not accept any attempts to undermine the Constitution and the freedom of speech. However, he clarified that freedom of speech must remain within the bounds of constitutional rights, and any attempts to overstep these boundaries will be dealt with severely.

CM Fadnavis made these remarks in the state Assembly after Shiv Sena legislator Arjun Kaitkar raised concerns and protested against Kamra's comment referring to Deputy CM Eknath Shinde as a “traitor”, demanding strong action against him. Kaitkar insisted on Kamra’s arrest and called for the government to investigate the instigator behind his remarks.

He (Kunal Kamra) targeted Dy CM Eknath Shinde in his low-grade comedy act... I want to inform Kunal Kamra that the people elected Eknath Shinde. Individuals like him aim to gain notoriety through controversy. Kamra should understand that the 2024 elections have revealed who is a traitor and who garners public respect and support. Kunal Kamra is not greater than the public, as everyone knows that Eknath Shinde adheres to the ideology of the late Balasaheb Thackeray. The opposition supports Kunal Kamra, and someone tweeted in his favor. Have you (the opposition) given a 'Supari (contract)' to Kunal Kamra? Rahul Gandhi showcased the Constitution, and Kunal Kamra tweeted his picture similarly holding it. We appreciate stand-up comedy, but freedom of speech must be exercised within constitutional limits,” the Chief Minister stated.

“If someone makes such statements, action will be initiated against them; we will not tolerate such comments in Maharashtra. They have taken a supari to disrupt the well-being of Maharashtra. I assure you that strict measures will be enforced against Kunal Kamra and similar comedians,” he added.

“Write poems about us, and we will applaud. However, if someone insults us by taking a supari, we will act. Such behavior will not be tolerated in Maharashtra. Regardless of the circumstances, those who seek fame through unfair means will be taught a lesson. We appreciate stand-up comedy and have not abandoned Allahabadia. If freedom is violated and we remain silent, we will not forgive future generations. Strict legal action will be pursued in this matter, no matter the pressure applied, action will be taken. We will not spare those who insult societal standards or the institutions of the country,” CM Fadnavis stated.

He emphasized that such actions must be curtailed to maintain trust in the country’s system. “These liberals or what you may call urban naxals have a singular goal: to disrespect our Constitution and judiciary. I assure you that strict action will be taken against Kunal Kamra and similar comedians,” he concluded.
