Fake Passport Scam: Another Postal Department Contract Worker Arrested in West Bengal

Kolkata, Dec 17 (NationPress) A contractual employee of the Postal Department was apprehended in West Bengal on Tuesday for facilitating counterfeit Indian passports for illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.
The individual taken into custody has been named Taraknath Sen.
Sen marks the second contractual staff member from the Postal Department to be detained by the Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police within a span of 48 hours.
On December 15, two individuals, Samaresh Biswas and Deepak Mondal, were arrested in connection with the counterfeit passport scheme. Mondal was also employed on a contractual basis with the Postal Department.
City police sources indicated that the recent arrests of two contractual staff members from the Postal Department have intensified suspicions that such operations have established a network involving insiders within the department.
An investigation is currently underway to determine whether any permanent employees of the department are implicated in these schemes.
Investigators have already detected several recurring patterns in the operations of these networks engaged in producing fake Indian identity documents for Bangladeshi infiltrators.
Many of these operations are based in villages near districts that share international borders, both land and coastal, with Bangladesh. Recently, Selim Matabbar, a former associate of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), was detained at a hotel in the Park Street area of central Kolkata.
The police also seized a fake Indian passport from him. Investigations revealed that Matabbar, after illegally crossing the border, acquired his counterfeit Indian documents from a network operating out of the Indo-Bangladesh border district of Nadia.
