Bhopal, July 12 (NationPress) Following the decision of the Madhya Pradesh State Election Commission to carry out physical verification of voter lists in the state, the Congress party asserted on Saturday that the opposition has consistently raised concerns with the Election Commission (EC) regarding the significant presence of fraudulent voters in Madhya Pradesh.
Quoting data from the Election Commission, particularly highlighting about 8 to 10 percent of suspected fake voters, Congress emphasized that the Assembly elections scheduled for November 2023 were based on the same voter list.
“Isn’t it peculiar that the percentage of voters announced today aligns closely (at 8 percent) with the votes won by the BJP in the Assembly elections of 2023? This raises doubts about the legitimacy of the 2023 Assembly election results,” commented former Chief Minister Kamal Nath.
He noted that the vote shares of both Congress and BJP after the assembly elections were nearly identical.
“In 2023, while the BJP’s vote share rose by 8 percent, Congress managed to maintain its 40 percent vote share,” he stated.
It is worth mentioning that Congress contested two Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh - in 2018 and 2023 under Kamal Nath's leadership. In 2023, Congress's representation dropped to 63 seats from 114 seats won in the 2018 Assembly election.
On Friday, state Congress president Jitu Patwari also expressed skepticism regarding the outcome in his own Assembly seat.
“In the lead-up to the 2023 Assembly elections, approximately 70,000 votes were added in my assembly constituency within just two months. While I cannot definitively say that my election result was impacted, the fact that over 1600 locations in the state have an unusually high number of voters registered at a single address indicates that the BJP has mastered the art of electoral manipulation. The voter list verification must be re-evaluated,” he asserted.
Meanwhile, the BJP accused Congress of calling the Election Commission's procedures into question only when they face defeat, suggesting that Congress should concentrate on earning public support instead.
“Congress raises doubts about the Election Commission's process only after losing. When they win, everything appears fine. They should engage with the public to gain their acceptance and then join political activities,” remarked BJP leader Vishwas Sarang.
