Bhopal, Aug 19 (NationPress) The BJP in Madhya Pradesh has dismissed the Congress party's allegations of irregularities during the 2023 State Assembly elections as unfounded, labeling it an effort to tarnish the reputation of the Election Commission of India (ECI).
During a press conference, prominent BJP leader Vishwas Sarang criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for attempting to fabricate a narrative amidst fears of his party's impending defeat in the forthcoming Bihar Assembly elections.
The BJP MLA, who also serves as the Sports and Youth Welfare Minister of Madhya Pradesh, accused the state Congress leadership of orchestrating a campaign against the ECI.
“Rahul Gandhi is aware that Congress is facing a likely defeat in Bihar, which is why he has resorted to blaming the Election Commission. The Madhya Pradesh Congress press conference was merely a platform to support Gandhi's narrative,” Minister Sarang stated.
This statement follows allegations made by Congress MLA and the Leader of Opposition in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, Umang Singhar, who claimed there was evidence of 'vote theft' during the 2023 Assembly elections.
During his press briefing, Singhar showcased graphics and government documents to express doubts about the results in 27 Assembly constituencies where Congress candidates lost by narrow margins.
“The Congress party lost these 27 seats by very slim margins despite a surprising increase in votes in these areas, indicating potential irregularities in the voter list,” said Singhar.
He pointed out that the rise in voter numbers in those constituencies exceeded the margin of defeat, suggesting that the BJP might have gained an unfair advantage.
Singhar also criticized the ECI for not displaying photos in online voter lists due to 'privacy' issues, questioning the transparency of the process. “If privacy is not compromised in government scheme advertisements, why are photos excluded from voter lists, which are crucial for transparency?” he questioned.
He further alleged that whenever issues regarding the voter list arise, the Madhya Pradesh CEO website is either down or shows a maintenance notice.
In the 2023 elections, the BJP claimed victory in 163 out of 230 seats, while the Congress managed to win only 66 seats.
