Bhopal, Aug 19 (NationPress) In the midst of a heated debate over alleged electoral irregularities at the national level, the Madhya Pradesh Congress has made serious accusations of 'vote theft' during the Assembly Elections conducted in November 2023.
During a press briefing at the party's headquarters in Bhopal on Tuesday, Senior Congress MLA and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the State Assembly, Umang Singhar, along with other senior leaders, presented visuals backed by data, scanned government orders, and regulations.
The Congress, serving as the primary Opposition party in Madhya Pradesh, expressed concerns regarding the outcomes of 27 Assembly seats, where Congress nominees faced defeat by very narrow margins.
LoP Umang Singhar stated, 'The Congress lost these 27 seats by very narrow margins despite an unexpected increase in votes within these Assembly constituencies. This points to potential irregularities in the voter list.'
He emphasized that in those specific constituencies, the surge in voter numbers significantly exceeded the margin of loss, 'implying that the BJP may have received an unfair advantage.'
Singhar highlighted that the Election Commission of India (ECI) declined to publish images in online voter lists, citing 'privacy' and 'file size', yet the government publicly displayed photos and videos of beneficiaries in its advertisements.
He questioned, 'If privacy isn’t compromised in that instance, why are photos absent from the voter list, which is crucial for transparency?'
He further asserted, 'Whenever issues regarding voter list irregularities are brought up, the Madhya Pradesh CEO website either crashes or displays a notice indicating 'website under maintenance.''
Despite the gravity of the Opposition's allegations, the ruling BJP in Madhya Pradesh has yet to respond to the Congress claims.
In the recent Assembly elections held in November 2023, the BJP secured 163 out of 230 seats, while the Congress managed to win only 66 seats.
