Bhopal, March 18 (NationPress) Madhya Pradesh Food and Civil Supplies Minister Govind Singh Rajput criticized Congress MLA and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the state Assembly Umang Singhar, claiming that Singhar holds a contract to defame him through false allegations.
When questioned about who initiated this contract, he stated, "Everyone knows who is plotting against me. I prefer not to name him, but it is clear who that individual is."
The BJP minister asserted that if Singhar continues as LoP, the Congress party may not secure more than 8-10 seats in the upcoming Assembly elections.
"The Congress managed to win 66 seats in the previous Assembly elections thanks to the efforts of seasoned leaders like Kamal Nath and Digvijaya Singh. However, if Singhar remains as LoP, the party is unlikely to reach double digits in the next elections," Minister Rajput remarked.
He highlighted that although the Congress has many senior leaders, even from the Tribal community, the top leadership has mistakenly selected the wrong individual for the LoP position.
These comments came a day after a group of Congress MLAs, headed by LoP Singhar, approached the state Lokayukta Police and delivered a memorandum requesting an investigation into his purported benami properties.
The opposition has demanded an inquiry into the acquisition of land valued at Rs 500 crore.
Moreover, they accused Rajput of acquiring land under the names of his brothers-in-law, mother-in-law, and other relatives in the Sagar and Damoh districts.
Congress also insisted on probing Rajput's involvement in the case of ex-RTO constable Saurabh Sharma, who was arrested under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Since the inception of Saurabh Sharma's corruption case, the opposition has been persistently criticizing Minister Rajput.
The Congress party alleges that Sharma has a close association with Minister Rajput.
