Bhopal, July 22 (NationPress) Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Kamal Nath, experienced a sense of validation on Tuesday as Congress leader Rahul Gandhi claimed that the results of the 2023 Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections were "manipulated".
In response to Gandhi’s comments, Nath urged party members to stay alert during the voter list verification process currently taking place in the state.
Nath, who spearheaded the Congress campaign in the 2023 Assembly elections—where the party secured only 63 out of 230 seats—called on workers to ensure that no fraudulent voters are included and that legitimate names are not excluded from the rolls.
“I appreciate the commitment of our Congress workers. Everyone put in significant effort, but due to vote manipulation, we were unable to secure victory. Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition, has recognized this as well,” Nath stated in a post on X.
Gandhi made this assertion during a virtual address at a two-day training camp for Congress MLAs in Madhya Pradesh, which commenced on Monday in Mandu, located in the Dhar district. A brief clip shared by the state Congress team features Gandhi stating: “The 2023 Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections were manipulated, akin to what transpired in Maharashtra.”
This statement is viewed as a substantial endorsement for Kamal Nath, who had to resign as the state Congress president following the party's disappointing electoral performance. Nath faced scrutiny for allegedly making unilateral decisions regarding candidate selections. Notably, two AICC in-charges assigned to Madhya Pradesh were replaced within a mere two months during the election period.
Furthermore, Rahul Gandhi cautioned party members about a renewed endeavor to alter electoral rolls ahead of upcoming elections. “There is a scheme to manipulate the voter list once more, and elections could be compromised in Madhya Pradesh just like in Maharashtra. Congress workers need to be prepared to combat this,” he asserted.
The training camp aimed to enhance collaboration between elected officials and party personnel and to prepare for forthcoming political challenges, concluding on Tuesday.
