New Delhi, Oct 9 (NationPress) Congress Member of Parliament (MP) from Wayanad, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, urged government bodies to enhance farm stay tourism to reconnect urban youth with nature.
"Numerous children are maturing in city settings, entirely detached from the natural world. It would be incredibly beneficial for educational institutions to send their pupils for farm stay experiences," she expressed on X.
Sharing a video of her previous engagement with farm tourism and homestay representatives at Carmel Agro Farm, located in Anakkampoyil, near Thiruvambady, in the Kozhikode district of Kerala, the Congress leader remarked, "Government support is essential for the proper promotion of farm stay tourism."
In her social media update on X, she mentioned, "It was a delight to meet with 27 motivated farmers who have united to launch a farm stay project! The gathering took place at a farm owned by a remarkable couple -- Elsie and Dominique."
"Elsie possesses a wealth of knowledge regarding various plants, their applications, and cultivation techniques! I mentioned to her that she is incredibly fortunate as everything imaginable flourishes on her farm," she added.
"Each of the 27 farmers I encountered cultivates something distinct (some have even received accolades for their produce) -- coffee, spices, diverse fruits, fisheries, duck rearing, exotic animals, and one gentleman even keeps tarantulas," the Congress leader shared, providing insights into her discussions with Kerala's growers.
Encouraging the promotion of farm stay tourism, she noted that both children and adults can reap its benefits.
"For adults too, this presents a captivating and enjoyable method to learn about and experience farming. Simultaneously, it would create a new source of income for numerous small farmers who are in need of assistance," she stated.
On the previous day, the Congress leader addressed the issue of flood relief for farmers in Wayanad.
In a post on X, she expressed, "The Central government's unwillingness to forgive the loans of those impacted by the catastrophic Wayanad landslides of 2024 is astonishing. Particularly when the debts of certain large corporations are written off without hesitation. These loans represent the lives of individuals who have endured unimaginable suffering through no fault of their own -- they amount to a trivial sum in comparison."
