Cachar Police arrested a father and his daughter on Tuesday after seizing 200 suspected heroin vials and 310 psychotropic tablets during an intelligence-led anti-narcotics raid in Assam's Cachar district. The operation, conducted in the Banskandi area under the Lakhipur Assembly constituency, marks the latest in a sustained crackdown against drug trafficking networks in the region.

How the Raid Unfolded

Acting on specific intelligence inputs about the alleged storage and movement of narcotic substances, a police team descended on a residential premises at Alipur Basti locality in Cachar district late at night. During the search, officers examined a scooter bearing registration number AS-11K-5955 parked at the residence, which led to the recovery of the contraband.

The seized material comprised 200 suspected heroin vials weighing approximately 5.5 grams and 310 suspected psychotropic tablets. The contraband was recovered in the presence of witnesses and seized under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, officials said.

The Accused

The two individuals taken into custody have been identified as Shamsur Uddin Laskar and his daughter, Rubina Begum. Both have been booked under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act following their arrest. No further personal details have been disclosed by police at this stage.

Investigation and Wider Network

Authorities are actively working to establish the source of the seized narcotics and identify the intended recipients of the consignment. The probe is focused on tracing any larger drug trafficking network that may be linked to the accused. Police have not ruled out further arrests as the investigation progresses.
