Mumbai, July 13 (NationPress) Actress Fatima Sana Shaikh has expressed her views on how society’s perceptions regarding women and marriage—particularly after the age of 30—are gradually transforming.
She recognized that although the stigma still lingers to some degree, there is an increasing acceptance of personal choices and evolving relationship dynamics in modern society. Discussing the stigma, Fatima admitted that while discussions about women remaining unmarried past a certain age continue, the pressure has lessened significantly compared to the past.
The ‘Dangal’ actress also observed that the expectation to marry by a specific age was once much more prevalent. However, as times have changed, the significance of relationships has also evolved. Many individuals today are prioritizing self-development, career ambitions, or simply embracing the decision to remain single—and society is gradually starting to recognize that.
“It does happen, but it’s less frequent now, I believe. In the past, it was more noticeable. Now, relationships have evolved, and their meanings have also transformed. A greater number of people are comfortable being alone or are focusing on various other pursuits. Therefore, society is beginning to accept that. I’m unsure if this is right or wrong, but I think the taboo has certainly diminished,” she stated.
Fatima Sana Shaikh also reminisced about her first love, sharing a heartwarming and nostalgic moment from her youth. When asked if she had ever pressed flowers in books or experienced romantic gestures, the actress replied with a smile, “100 percent.” She fondly recalled a birthday surprise orchestrated by her then-partner, who had adorned the path from the door to the room with flowers. “There were flowers everywhere, and candles lit all around the cake,” she remembered. However, the surprise didn't unfold as planned, as most of the candles had melted by the time she arrived. “We had to clean it up afterward,” she chuckled. Reflecting on that experience, Fatima described it as a unique form of love—genuine and simple. “I was very young then and didn’t even have Facebook or Instagram,” she noted.
On the professional front, Fatima recently starred in the romantic comedy “Aap Jaisa Koi” alongside R. Madhavan. Directed by Vivek Soni, the film premiered on Netflix on July 11.
