Washington, March 10 (NationPress) A massive $150 million cricket complex is set to be constructed in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Local media sources suggest that this development may emerge as the largest cricket stadium project in the United States, potentially attracting international attention to the rapidly growing sport in America.

Construction teams have already initiated clearing a wooded area adjacent to Cedar Creek Road along Interstate 95 for the proposed sports facility, which developers claim will be the most extensive cricket stadium development in the nation, according to local CBS17 News.

The envisioned US Open Sports Complex will cover approximately 75 acres and feature two international cricket stadiums, each designed to accommodate around 15,000 fans. The venues will boast rooftop dining options, sky lounges, and large scoreboards, making them suitable for major tournaments and large-scale sporting events.

According to developers, the project aims to host international cricket matches, concerts, and various sporting events. Additionally, the complex will include soccer fields, a significant fitness center, and approximately 500 apartments for players, as reported.

Advocates of the project believe it could generate substantial economic opportunities for the region.

“The potential for local job creation is enormous,” stated Mahammad Qureshi, the chief executive of Cricket Council USA, during an interview.

Qureshi revealed that Fayetteville was selected after considering larger metropolitan areas like New York and Washington, D.C.

“We evaluated New York, but the cold weather was a concern,” Qureshi noted. “Washington, D.C. was also on our radar; however, we find the climate here in North Carolina to be much more favorable.”

He emphasized the city’s strategic location along the I-95 corridor, facilitating easier travel for teams and fans along the East Coast.

“It’s a central hub for us,” he remarked.

Moreover, developers are contemplating the establishment of a professional cricket team in the city, potentially named the North Carolina Airborne.

Fayetteville Mayor Mitch Colvin expressed enthusiasm for the project, viewing it as a pivotal advancement for the city’s future.

“The arrival of a state-of-the-art cricket stadium and a $150 million investment signifies that our city is confidently stepping into the future,” Colvin stated. “This premier facility will attract international focus, create fresh economic prospects, and foster a vibrant sports culture beneficial to our entire community.”

Developers aim to finalize the construction by 2027. If completed on schedule, the facility could potentially serve as a training venue leading up to the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, as reported.
