Tamil Nadu Government Launches Free Online Skill Training for Construction Workers' Children
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, February 28 (NationPress) In a significant step towards social welfare and skill enhancement, the Tamil Nadu government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Stalin, has launched an extensive program to provide free structured online training for 50,000 students from families of construction workers.
This initiative aims to foster sustainable career opportunities for youths from economically disadvantaged backgrounds by equipping them with in-demand skills.
The Tamil Nadu Academy of Construction (TAC), operating within the state’s Labour Department, will oversee the implementation of this initiative.
Targeting higher education students who are the dependents of individuals registered with the Tamil Nadu Construction Workers Welfare Board (TNCWWB), the program ensures that benefits reach eligible families through a well-organized welfare system.
To kick off this scheme, TAC has called for proposals from qualified training agencies to conduct six-month online skill enhancement programs across 40 diverse fields.
Officials stated that the program is designed to supplement formal education with practical, industry-aligned competencies that boost employability in today’s technology-driven job market.
All courses will be available completely free of charge and will span both emerging and traditional sectors.
Key focus areas include Artificial Intelligence, data science, software development, cloud computing, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), robotics, and digital marketing.
Every program will comply with the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) standards and align with the appropriate National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) codes to ensure national-level recognition and employability.
Training providers must deliver content via a dedicated Learning Management System (LMS) accessible on both web and mobile platforms.
The platform will offer 24/7 access to high-quality pre-recorded video lessons featuring animations, interactive dashboards for trainees, and both academic and technical support available through a toll-free helpline.
Authorities have made it clear that screen-recorded sessions or freely accessible online materials will not be accepted.
Officials emphasized that enrollment will be strictly limited to verified eligible beneficiaries through district-level checks by the welfare Board.
Login credentials will be issued only after beneficiary status is authenticated to prevent any misuse of the scheme.
The chosen training provider will also be required to set up a dedicated call centre to assist with student mobilization, counseling, onboarding, and technical support throughout the program duration, ensuring effective implementation and ongoing support for participants.
