Chennai, Sep 20 (NationPress) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin emphasized the importance of teachers in nurturing students without imposing undue pressure during an event in Chennai. He urged educators to consider the unique circumstances of each household while guiding children in their educational and personal journeys.
During his address organized by the School Education Department, Stalin pointed out that the role of teachers is vital in shaping children's futures.
“Mental health and physical wellness are equally crucial as the knowledge you provide. In the contemporary world, students frequently spend more time with educators than with their parents,” he noted.
Highlighting the diverse family backgrounds of students—some from well-educated families and many from less privileged ones—Stalin encouraged teachers to act as “second parents” by understanding their unique challenges and fostering their growth.
He also stressed the necessity of preparing students for a future influenced by Artificial Intelligence (AI).
“Students must not rely solely on Google or AI for answers. Teachers should assist them in distinguishing between technology and human intellect. Beyond academics, it's vital to instill ethical values, promote literary engagement, build social consciousness, and educate students about environmental issues,” he stated.
Stalin called for innovative teaching methods, urging educators to utilize digital platforms.
“Just as YouTube offers various content on critical thinking and problem-solving, you should create new material that fosters students' abilities. Your dedication today will plant the seeds for a brighter future,” he added.
The Chief Minister encouraged teachers to go beyond textbooks, advocating for the principles of equality and social justice in their classrooms.
“Ensure that students are not swayed by caste biases or gender discrimination. Instead, teach them the significance of fairness and inclusivity,” he remarked.
During the occasion, Stalin inaugurated a training program for 2,715 newly appointed teachers, unveiled 76 newly constructed school facilities worth Rs 122 crore, and laid the foundation for 263 new schools, which are estimated to cost Rs 310 crore.
He also revealed a modern building for the Scouts and Guides Headquarters.
Notable attendees included Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, Health Minister Ma. Subramanian, Municipal Administration Minister K.N. Nehru, and School Education Secretary B. Chandra Mohan.
