Puri, June 28 (NationPress) Lifeguards at Puri beach expressed great joy and pride during a visit from Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, who came to participate in the sacred Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath.
In an interview with IANS, the lifeguards shared their excitement over meeting and engaging with Gautam Adani.
“We feel privileged and ecstatic that Gautam Adani chose to visit us. This is the first instance of such a significant figure interacting with us. It brings us immense happiness,” stated Mani Shiva Rao, President of the Puri Beach Lifeguard.
“We were overwhelmed with joy and pride when Gautam Adani reached out to us. His presence means a lot to us,” added Hari Rao, General Secretary of the Puri Lifeguard Association.
The Adani Group launched the 'Prasad Seva' initiative in Puri Dham and is actively engaged in extensive service efforts to assist both devotees and frontline workers throughout the Rath Yatra from June 26 to July 8.
The Group has provided support for lifeguards from the Puri Beach Lifeguard Mahasangha, alongside volunteers for beach cleanup, particularly focusing on plastic waste. They also distributed complimentary T-shirts for official volunteers and fluorescent safety vests for municipal staff.
As the Rath Yatra continues to draw thousands of devotees and tourists, the lifeguards of Puri Beach diligently perform their vital role of saving lives.
“Daily, we serve thousands of individuals attending the Rath Yatra. Our team works tirelessly, both day and night, especially around the coastline and temple vicinity,” shared Mani.
“We’ve managed over 450 medical emergencies so far. Starting at 6 a.m. daily, our teams ensure the area is clean and prepared for pilgrims. From road safety to healthcare, we are continuously striving to support the Yatra and ensure everyone's safety,” he continued.
As the committed lifeguards remain unsung heroes amidst the large influx of devotees, lifeguard commander M Jogi Rao stated that they work relentlessly for humanity, finding fulfillment in saving lives.
“We are here every day, from dawn till dusk, dedicated to saving lives. Each time we rescue someone from drowning, it fills our hearts with joy—this is our greatest reward. We’re not in this for recognition; we do it for humanity,” he remarked.
He also conveyed a reassuring message to all visitors and pilgrims: “Rest assured, we are here for you every single day. Come, relish the beauty of Puri Beach, and receive the blessings of Lord Jagannath without fear. Your safety is our priority.”
