Gehlot Critiques BJP for Overlooking Rajasthan's Constitution Club
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur, April 3 (NationPress) Former Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot, on Friday unveiled Chapter-12 of his ‘Intezaar Shastra’ series, accusing the BJP government of overlooking the Constitution Club of Rajasthan, situated in Jaipur. This facility was initially meant to serve as a center for democratic discourse and intellectual engagement.
In his ongoing political critique through the ‘Intezaar Shastra’ series, Gehlot spotlighted the Constitution Club, alleging that it has become underused due to the so-called “politics of vendetta” practiced by the incumbent BJP administration.
Positioned centrally in Jaipur, the Constitution Club was modeled after the Constitution Club of India located in Delhi, as stated by Gehlot.
Emphasizing its exceptional infrastructure, he remarked that the club features a state-of-the-art auditorium, conference rooms, a café, a luxury gym, a restaurant, and guest accommodations that rival five-star facilities.
Gehlot asserted that the club was intended to be a communal space for intellectuals, authors, and elected officials to partake in significant democratic dialogue. He raised concerns over the lack of utilization of such a high-caliber facility.
The former Chief Minister directed three critical questions at the government led by Bhajan Lal Sharma: Why has the club remained closed for nearly a year despite its completion? Why is the membership process neither transparent nor accessible? Is the government afraid that open democratic dialogues will reveal its flaws?
Gehlot contended that the club was constructed with taxpayer money and should not be disregarded due to political disagreements. He described such inaction as a misappropriation of public resources and cautioned that citizens will not accept neglect towards public property.
Labeling the Constitution Club as a representation of Rajasthan’s intellectual legacy, he argued that limiting access or underutilizing it compromises democratic principles. His comments have sparked renewed political discourse in the state, garnering interest from political figures as well as the literary and journalistic communities.
