Gene Simmons Critiques Celebrities for Political Commentary
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Los Angeles, March 12 (NationPress) Gene Simmons, the iconic lead singer of the legendary rock band KISS, has expressed his discontent with celebrities who openly engage in political discourse.
According to reports from ‘Female First UK’, he believes that such personalities should simply "mind their own business" when it comes to discussing political issues.
The 76-year-old musician argued that individuals in the public eye are not inherently more knowledgeable about global affairs than the average person and should concentrate on their craft, as most people are not interested in their views.
Simmons made these remarks following actor Ben Stiller's criticism of President Donald Trump, sparked by the White House using a clip from Stiller's film ‘Tropic Thunder’ as a justification for military action, as reported by ‘Female First UK’.
In a statement to TMZ, he remarked, "Everyone should take actors and comedians seriously because they are so qualified. In essence, shut up. Focus on your art and keep quiet. No one cares about your opinions, including mine. Who do you think you are? Americans work hard for their money and do not want to be lectured by those who live in luxury. It’s time for the entertainment sector to zip it and concentrate on their creativity. Nobody cares what you think—neither do I."
Gene also took a jab at Mark Ruffalo, mistakenly calling him “Buffalo,” due to the actor’s frequent political commentary.
He further stated, "What does Mark (Ruffalo) think? I don’t care. Why not ask Kylie Jenner her thoughts on the current war?"
Despite his criticisms, it is noted by ‘Female First UK’ that Simmons has shared his opinions about Trump over the years, having met him during the first season of Celebrity Apprentice in 2008.
In a past interview with Rolling Stone magazine, he referred to the businessman as "good for the political system", although his views seemed to shift in 2022.
He told Spin magazine, "Look at what that gentleman (Trump) did to this nation—the division caused, bringing out the worst in people. I don’t see him as either a Republican or a Democrat. He’s simply out for himself, whatever it takes. In the last election, over 70 million people were fooled completely by him," he concluded.
