Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Shimla, Feb 14 (NationPress) Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of Himachal Pradesh announced on Saturday that the state government is implementing a support price for milk, and minimum support price (MSP) for ginger will be introduced shortly.
In the near future, the Sarahan hospital will be equipped with specialist doctors and an ultrasound machine. He also revealed plans for a CBSE school in Sarahan and the double-laning of the Sarahan-Chandigarh road.
While addressing the public in Sarahan, he assured that all requests from local Congress leader Dayal Pyari and former Assembly Speaker Gangu Ram Musafir would be met.
In tribute to the state's inaugural Chief Minister, Dr. Y.S. Parmar, CM Sukhu noted the enactment of Section 118 of the Himachal Pradesh Tenancy and Land Reforms Act, 1972, which governs land transfers to non-agriculturists, ensuring the protection of Himachali interests. The current government is committed to upholding these principles.
He mentioned that the state has been receiving the Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG) since Dr. Parmar's era, yet the 16th Finance Commission stripped this 77-year-old entitlement.
"The RDG is the rightful claim of the citizens of Himachal, not the government," he stated.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the government is advocating for the state's rights. He noted that despite a venue change for an all-party meeting at the request of BJP leaders, the BJP did not advocate for Himachal’s interests, while other parties joined the state government in supporting the RDG issue.
During the meeting, CM Sukhu asked whether BJP leaders supported Himachal Pradesh receiving the RDG, but they remained silent. He urged BJP leaders to clarify their stance regarding the Rs 10,000 crore cut.
CM Sukhu asserted that the people of Himachal Pradesh "are not begging; this is their rightful demand."
He reiterated the government's commitment to fight for its rights and emphasized the importance of public support. He challenged BJP leaders to work towards reinstating the RDG with the Prime Minister.
CM Sukhu remarked that during the previous BJP administration, an additional Rs 70,000 crore was allocated over five years, yet the funds were not utilized effectively.
“Had the BJP government managed these funds wisely, the state wouldn't be burdened with a debt of Rs 76,000 crore and liabilities of Rs 10,000 crore,” he concluded.
