New Delhi, Oct 14 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Tuesday that Google's gigawatt-scale compute capacity infrastructure in India aligns with the initiative to create a Viksit Bharat.
Google has revealed plans for an artificial intelligence (AI) hub in Visakhapatnam, with a projected investment of around $15 billion over five years (2026-2030), marking its most significant investment in the nation thus far.
"I am thrilled about the establishment of the Google AI Hub in the vibrant city of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh," PM Modi expressed in a message on the social media platform X.
The Prime Minister emphasized that this extensive investment, which includes gigawatt-scale data centre infrastructure, will serve as a robust catalyst for democratizing technology.
In response to a post by Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, PM Modi remarked that "it will also ensure AI for All, providing state-of-the-art tools to our citizens, enhancing our digital economy, and solidifying India’s position as a global tech leader".
Pichai previously noted the pleasure of discussing with PM Modi the plans for the inaugural Google AI hub in Visakhapatnam, describing it as a milestone development.
"This hub integrates gigawatt-scale compute capacity, a new international subsea gateway, and extensive energy infrastructure. Through this initiative, we aim to deliver our top-tier technology to enterprises and users in India, facilitating AI innovation and driving nationwide growth," he stated.
The announcement was made at the ‘Bharat AI Shakti’ event hosted by Google in New Delhi, serving as a precursor to the India-AI Impact Summit 2026.
Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian highlighted that the Google AI hub in Visakhapatnam signifies a pivotal investment in India’s digital future.
The Visakhapatnam AI hub will feature a specially designed data centre campus, enhancing gigawatt-scale compute capacity to fulfill the demand for digital services both in India and globally.
Developed in collaboration with leading partners AdaniConneX and Airtel, it will utilize the same advanced infrastructure that powers Google products like Search, Workspace, and YouTube.
Upon becoming operational, the new data centre campus will integrate into Google’s existing network of AI data centres across 12 countries.
