New Delhi, Oct 14 (NationPress) Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed his enthusiasm regarding Google’s recent announcement to set up an artificial intelligence (AI) hub in Visakhapatnam. He noted that this initiative is in line with the Indian government’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision and is poised to deliver significant economic and societal advantages for both India and the United States while enhancing India's AI capabilities.
The announcement was made during the Bharat AI Shakti event in the national capital, serving as a precursor to the India-AI Impact Summit 2026.
“This digital infrastructure will significantly contribute to achieving the objectives of our India AI mission. AI services are emerging as a key sector in our digital economy, and this facility will aid in equipping our youth for careers in AI,” Vaishnaw stated.
He also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for providing a vision that integrates technology into all aspects of life.
“I urge the industry to play a vital role in re-skilling and upskilling our IT professionals and appreciate Google for prioritizing this in their agenda,” the Union Minister added.
The newly established AI hub will integrate Google’s complete AI stack, which includes advanced AI infrastructure, data center capacity, large-scale energy solutions, and an enhanced fiber-optic network.
With an investment of around $15 billion over five years (2026-2030), this marks Google’s most significant investment in India to date.
According to an analysis commissioned by Google and conducted by Access Partnership, the AI hub is anticipated to contribute at least $15 billion to the American GDP over the next five years.
This growth is expected to arise from increased cloud and AI usage, along with the involvement of US talent and resources in the hub's development and operation.
N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, stated that this project signifies a “new chapter in India’s digital transformation journey,” emphasizing the state's role in hosting India’s inaugural gigawatt-scale data center and Google’s first AI hub in the country.
Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, referred to the AI hub as a “landmark investment in India’s digital future,” emphasizing its potential to help businesses innovate more rapidly and foster opportunities for inclusive growth.
