Gandhinagar, Dec 16 (NationPress) On December 17, 2025, at 3:00 PM, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will hand over cheques totaling Rs 2,800 crore in Ahmedabad, focusing on the comprehensive development of the State’s Municipal Corporations and Municipalities.

Following the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the year 2025 is being recognized as the Urban Development Year under the Chief Minister’s leadership.

This Rs 2,800 crore grant-in-aid is anticipated to invigorate urban development projects throughout the State.

The ceremony will take place at the AUDA Auditorium in Shela, presided over by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.

Attendees will include Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi, Urban Development Minister Kanubhai Desai, Minister of State for Urban Development Darshna Vaghela, and officials from Municipal Corporations and Municipalities. The Municipal Corporations and Municipalities of Gujarat are fundamental to the State’s urban governance system, overseeing planning, service delivery, and infrastructure development across cities and towns.

Municipal Corporations manage major urban centers like Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot, tackling multifaceted responsibilities such as urban planning, public health, water supply, sanitation, solid waste management, roadways, public transport, fire services, and e-governance.

Conversely, Municipalities govern smaller towns and developing urban areas, emphasizing essential civic amenities, local infrastructure, housing, street lighting, drainage, and community services.

Collectively, these urban local entities are crucial for executing state and central government initiatives, boosting economic activity, enhancing quality of life, and transforming policy decisions into tangible results.

Through financial decentralization, performance-based grants, and technology-enhanced monitoring, Gujarat’s municipal bodies are increasingly recognized as drivers of inclusive, sustainable, and citizen-focused urban growth.

Municipal Corporations and Municipalities are vital as they constitute the foundation of urban governance in Gujarat, directly influencing the daily lives of residents.

These local authorities are tasked with delivering essential civic services such as water supply, sanitation, solid waste management, roadways, street lighting, public transport, health services, urban housing, and local infrastructure.
