Har Ghar Tiranga: Gujarat targets 70 lakh homes, CM Patel hoists flag
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Thursday, 13 August 2025, hoisted the Tricolour at his official residence in Gandhinagar, formally joining the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign as the state drives to display the national flag at more than 70 lakh homes ahead of Independence Day. The statewide initiative runs from 9 to 17 August under the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, coinciding with India's 80th Independence Day and the 150th anniversary of 'Vande Mataram'.
Scale of Gujarat's Participation
Gujarat has planned more than 1,200 Tiranga Yatras across the state, drawing participation from educational institutions, universities, and social and religious organisations. Programmes are being held in villages along the India-Pakistan border as well as in major urban centres, reflecting the campaign's reach from border districts to metropolitan hubs.
Key Events Across the State
A Tiranga Yatra and Tiranga Concert were held in Gandhinagar on 10 August, followed by a yatra in Ahmedabad on 12 August and another in Rajkot on 13 August. A Tiranga Yatra is scheduled in Vadodara on 14 August. Special programmes at district headquarters are also planned on 14 August to mark 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day'.
What the Government Said
Chief Minister Patel has urged the campaign to evolve beyond a symbolic exercise, calling for 'Har Ghar Tiranga' to become 'Har Dil Tiranga'. Addressing the Gandhinagar Tiranga Yatra on 10 August, he said, 'The Tiranga Yatra is a journey of the unity and integrity of the country.' He also called on citizens to carry the spirit of 'Nation First' and urged the younger generation to learn about the sacrifices of freedom fighters.
Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi said the campaign is intended to honour soldiers who gave their lives in service of the nation, express respect for their families, and strengthen patriotic sentiment among citizens.
Grassroots Mobilisation
Local patriotic programmes are being organised across talukas, villages, municipalities, and municipal corporations throughout Gujarat. The campaign's ground-level reach — extending to panchayat-level units — marks one of the most expansive flag-display drives the state has undertaken. As India marks eight decades of independence, Gujarat's push for 70 lakh flag-displaying homes will serve as a benchmark for how deeply the national campaign has penetrated at the household level.
