Ahmedabad, Sep 4 (NationPress) Gujarat, recognized as a prominent center for manufacturing industries, has celebrated a remarkable achievement with no fatal boiler accidents reported in the past three years, thanks to stringent inspections enforced by the state’s Boiler Directorate.
Operating directly under the Labour Commissioner’s oversight, the directorate has accomplished complete inspections of all registered operational boilers statewide.
From 2022-23 to 2024-25, the department successfully certified 23,719 boilers and 675 economisers, ensuring adherence to safety standards in sectors where boiler explosions pose significant threats to lives and properties.
During this timeframe, the government allocated a budget of Rs 22 crore, while inspection fees generated revenue exceeding Rs 36 crore.
Labour and Employment Minister Balvantsinh Rajput and Minister of State Kunvarjibhai Halpati attributed the department’s proactive initiatives to the maintenance of industrial safety without impeding production.
Under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the directorate remains committed to effectively enforcing boiler regulations, ensuring the protection of workers and assets while fostering industrial growth.
Apart from inspections, the Boiler Directorate is also advancing initiatives focused on energy conservation, environmental protection, and training skilled manpower for various industries.
Officials emphasized that, in accordance with the Boiler Act 2025, all steam generators with a volumetric capacity exceeding 25 litres, operating at pressures above 1 kg/cm² and heating water beyond 100°C, must be registered prior to usage.
The Boiler Directorate functions as a crucial technical division of Gujarat’s labor and employment sector, overseeing the safe operation of boilers and steam-generating equipment in industries such as textiles, chemicals, and engineering.
Its primary responsibility is to avert accidents and protect lives and property by ensuring that every boiler in the state is registered, certified, and routinely inspected under the Boiler Act.
The directorate’s scope includes approving new boilers and economisers, conducting regular safety assessments, enforcing legal mandates, training skilled personnel, and promoting energy efficiency.
Additionally, it contributes to state revenue through inspection and certification fees, while remaining focused on industrial safety, environmental stewardship, and uninterrupted production.
By merging rigorous regulation with technical support, the Boiler Directorate plays a pivotal role in harmonizing Gujarat’s swift industrial expansion with worker safety and public welfare.
