Manchester, Sep 19 (NationPress) Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden expressed that Erling Haaland’s remarkable scoring achievements are unparalleled after the Norwegian forward became the fastest player to net 50 Champions League goals in City’s 2-0 victory over Napoli. Foden remarked that the Norwegian striker seems to continuously shatter records.
Following a scoreless first half against the Italian champions at the Etihad Stadium, Haaland broke the stalemate shortly after the interval by flicking in a Foden assist.
This milestone means he has reached the 50-goal mark in Europe’s premier club competition in just 49 matches, outpacing Ruud van Nistelrooy, who achieved the same feat in 62 appearances.
“He seems to break every record going. At his age as well, it’s unheard of what he’s accomplished. I don’t think anyone’s going to surpass the records he’s set to break if he continues playing as he is,” Foden stated during an interview on TNT Sports.
Haaland’s scoring ratio of over one goal per game is significantly superior to that of anyone else in the top 50 scorers in European Cup history. Out of his Champions League goals, 27 have been scored while playing for City, alongside 15 for Borussia Dortmund and 8 for Red Bull Salzburg before his transfer to the Etihad.
After Haaland’s historic header, Jeremy Doku sealed the victory with a well-executed goal with 25 minutes left in the match. As City aims for their second European championship title in their esteemed history, Foden believes the team has made an ideal start to their quest.
“It’s the perfect beginning – a 2-0 win against a very challenging opponent – obviously they went down to 10 men early, which aided us. But they present a difficult challenge to penetrate, as we witnessed today. Their structure keeps them deep and limits spaces. It’s about timing the ball effectively and breaking through the lines. I felt we handled it well, minimizing silly turnovers, and overall it was a solid performance,” Foden added.
