Cairo, Oct 6 (NationPress) A team representing the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) has arrived in Egypt on Sunday, gearing up for discussions with Egyptian officials scheduled for Monday in the coastal city of Sharm El Sheikh, as reported by Egyptian sources to Xinhua.
The upcoming negotiations will center on executing the initial phase of US President Donald Trump's ceasefire initiative for Gaza, according to the informed sources.
Deliberations will specifically address the implementation details of the initial phase of the plan, including critical aspects such as the procedures for the prisoner exchange between Hamas and Israel and the process for Hamas to relinquish its arms.
Following the discussions with Hamas, Egyptian officials will meet separately with an Israeli delegation. The outcomes of these negotiations are expected to be shared with US Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law, upon their arrival in Egypt, according to sources.
On Saturday, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry confirmed that talks between Israeli and Hamas delegations will take place on Monday to explore "field conditions and details" for the exchange of "all Israeli detainees and Palestinian prisoners" under the proposed 20-point plan from the US.
Israel has reportedly halted bombings in the Gaza Strip to allow for the potential release of hostages and to facilitate the 20-point peace agreement, as stated by US President Donald Trump on Truth Social.
"Hamas must act swiftly, or there will be no second chances," he asserted in a post on Truth Social. "I am not going to accept delays... Let’s expedite this process, FAST."
In another post on Saturday, Trump mentioned that after the negotiations, Israel had agreed to the preliminary withdrawal line, which has been communicated to Hamas.
"Once Hamas confirms, the ceasefire will be IMMEDIATELY activated, the hostage and prisoner exchange will commence, and we will work towards the next stage of withdrawal," he elaborated.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed hopes of announcing the release of all hostages from Gaza "in the coming days" as indirect discussions with Hamas continue in Egypt on Monday.
