Washington, Oct 13 (NationPress) US President Donald Trump, alongside various Arab leaders, inked a significant peace agreement on Monday aimed at concluding the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza.
Trump's visit to Egypt marked the second stage of his Middle East tour, which followed his visit to Israel, coinciding with Hamas's release of 20 Israeli hostages.
During the signing ceremony, Trump declared this to be an “incredible day for the world, especially for the Middle East.”
He emphasized that the peace agreement is destined to endure, labeling it the “biggest, most complicated deal.”
Trump also engaged with several world leaders attending the summit in Egypt, including Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, among 20 heads of state present.
Upon arriving in Sharm el-Sheikh, Trump engaged in discussions with the Egyptian President. Addressing the media during the bilateral talks, Trump remarked that the second phase of his peace initiative has “commenced.”
“Phase two has commenced,” he stated, emphasizing that Gaza “requires substantial cleanup.”
The US President lauded Egypt for its exceptional efforts, saying, “They’ve done a fantastic job.”
The Egyptian President reciprocated the praise, acknowledging Trump's pivotal role in fostering peace between Hamas and Israel.
“I welcome you to Egypt. It's a great pleasure and an honor. We commend this unprecedented achievement. Your Excellency is the only one who could make this happen. I thank you, Mr. President. What we must focus on now is ensuring the ceasefire holds, delivering the remains of the deceased, and closely coordinating the subsequent steps,” he added.
Trump’s 20-point peace strategy for Gaza outlines the formation of a temporary technocratic administration, with Israel committing not to annex the Strip and ensuring that no inhabitants are displaced.
A new international transitional entity, the “Board of Peace,” will supervise the governance in Gaza, chaired by Trump and including other members such as former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair. This body will establish the framework and manage the funding for the revitalization of Gaza until the Palestinian Authority completes its reform agenda to regain control.
Hamas members who embrace peace will receive amnesty, while others will be provided safe passage abroad. Security in Gaza will be managed by regional and international forces, who will also assist in training Palestinian police, while aid will flow in at pre-established levels. The US will facilitate ongoing dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians to promote long-term coexistence.
