Chandigarh, Nov 13 (NationPress) The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) of Haryana, under the leadership of Opposition Leader Bhupinder Hooda, convened with Governor Ashim Kumar Ghosh on Thursday to present a memorandum advocating for action on several pressing concerns.
The CLP emphasized the urgent need for intervention regarding the devastating impact of heavy rainfall on farmers, allegations surrounding the paddy procurement scam, the alarming rise in crime rates within the state, and issues related to the ration card scam.
During a detailed discussion lasting nearly half an hour, Hooda informed the Governor about the critical situation prevailing in the state.
The memorandum pointed out that the recent torrential rains have caused major losses to farmers' crops, with fields of paddy, cotton, and other kharif crops being inundated, leading to significant financial distress for the agricultural community.
“Numerous farmers have seen their crops devastated, yet the government has not conducted a proper assessment or provided any tangible compensation. The excessive rainfall has ruined this year's harvest, and ongoing waterlogging is preventing sowing of the next crop. We are calling for a special survey and demand compensation for farmers at rates of Rs 50,000 to 60,000 per acre,” the memorandum stated.
It also highlighted the BJP government's claims of offering a minimum support price (MSP) for 24 crops, labeling this as unrealistic given the current circumstances.
The memorandum pointed out that many crops, including paddy, millet, green gram, and cotton, are not receiving the MSP.
“Farmers in Haryana are being compelled to sell their paddy and millet at prices Rs 500 to 600 below the MSP. They face exploitation under the guise of moisture levels. Reports of significant irregularities and scams in the government’s paddy procurement process have emerged. Many farmers are not receiving fair compensation in various markets, while instances of fraudulent transactions have raised serious concerns regarding transparency,” the document specified.
The Congress delegation, which included state party President Rao Narendra, also raised issues regarding fertilizer shortages and black market activities.
The party insisted that these matters be examined by a sitting judge of the High Court to ensure the truth is brought to light.
The memorandum further brought attention to the escalating crime rate in the state.
“Criminal activities such as murder, extortion, robbery, rape, theft, and drug offenses have become rampant. Citizens feel increasingly unsafe. The Central government has reported that over 80 criminal gangs operate within Haryana, engaging in organized crime,” it noted.
Demands for extortion from business owners and professionals have become alarmingly frequent.
“The populace has lost trust in law enforcement. Crime has escalated to the extent that even police officials are taking their own lives due to a lack of justice,” the memorandum stressed.
The Congress leaders asserted that fulfilling the government's responsibility to provide a safe and just environment for its citizens is essential, yet current governance is failing to deliver on this promise.
