A 14-year-old female student, who was living in the school hostel and enrolled in Class 3, was discovered to be pregnant during a medical examination.
It is claimed that the headmaster of the school directly assaulted the student. This revelation has created an atmosphere of outrage and fear not only within the school but throughout the district.
Upon learning of the incident, the victim’s relatives arrived at the school and initiated a vigorous protest, accusing the management of severe lapses in security measures. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the police responded promptly and apprehended the headmaster.
To manage the escalating tensions, Hunterganj Police Station in-charge Prabhat Kumar arrived on the scene with police personnel to calm the distressed villagers. Under police protection, both the victim and the accused headmaster, Shankar Prasad, were taken to the police station, where they were interrogated for several hours in the presence of senior administrative officials.
Chatra Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Shree took immediate action in light of the sensitive nature of the case. A comprehensive team of officials, including AC Arvind Kumar, SDO Mohammad Jahur Alam, the head of the Women Police Station, and REO Ambuja Raj, was dispatched to document the student’s statement. DC Keerthi Shree has also established a high-level inquiry committee to investigate the matter thoroughly.
Local leaders have expressed strong opinions regarding the incident. Zila Parishad Chairperson Mamta Kumari condemned the act as vile and stated that she would personally approach the DC and SP to demand justice for the victim, advocating for the harshest punishment for those responsible.
Nawadih Mukhiya and Basanti Panna have also insisted that the investigation be conducted in a completely impartial and scientific manner to ensure that the true perpetrator is held accountable and that no innocent individual is wrongfully accused.
The police have detained the accused headmaster, Shankar Prasad, and are in the process of transferring him to judicial custody.
In the meantime, the victim is receiving necessary medical treatment and counseling support.
