Himayani Puri Takes Legal Action Against Epstein Allegations in Delhi HC
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 16 (NationPress) Himayani Puri, the daughter of Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, has filed a defamation lawsuit in the Delhi High Court. She aims to eliminate online reports, posts, videos, and other digital content that allegedly associate her with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and his illicit activities.
In her legal action, Himayani Puri has claimed damages of Rs 10 crore and is seeking a permanent injunction against various social media platforms and unnamed individuals for purportedly disseminating defamatory information about her online.
She has also urged intermediaries, including X, Google, Meta Platforms, and LinkedIn, to delete the allegedly defamatory content and to remove similar posts in the future if flagged.
The lawsuit states that numerous posts circulating online since February 22, 2026, have made unfounded claims suggesting that Puri had direct or indirect business, financial, or personal ties with Epstein.
Furthermore, the complaint asserts that these allegations are completely false, malicious, and lack any factual basis. It also claims that several unidentified individuals and social media platforms have spread these assertions through edited videos, misleading captions, and manipulated thumbnails intended to incite public outrage and damage the plaintiff's reputation.
The complaint alleges that she is being deliberately targeted, with the harassment escalating due to her being the daughter of a prominent Union Cabinet minister.
The case is expected to be heard by the Delhi High Court on Tuesday.
This development occurs amid political turmoil in India following the release of documents related to investigations into Epstein in the United States.
Members of the opposition, including leaders from the Congress party, had previously called for the resignation of Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri after his name reportedly surfaced in the so-called “Epstein files.”
Jeffrey Epstein, a wealthy financier from the U.S., died in a New York prison in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex-trafficking charges involving minors. His passing was officially ruled a suicide.
The controversy has gained renewed attention globally after U.S. President Donald Trump enacted legislation requiring the release of documents related to the Epstein investigation.
The U.S. Justice Department subsequently released over three million pages of records as part of a transparency initiative after reviewing millions of pages of evidence gathered during inquiries into Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell.
