Mumbai, July 7 (NationPress) Actor Hrishikesh Pandey, renowned for his portrayal of Inspector Sachin in the acclaimed CID series, expressed his thoughts on the prevailing debate regarding the Marathi language in Maharashtra.
In an exclusive conversation with IANS, he noted that while honoring one’s native language is commendable, mastering a new language swiftly is a challenge for many.
When questioned about the increasing emphasis on speaking Marathi in Mumbai, Hrishikesh emphasized the importance of fostering unity rather than engaging in language disputes.
He articulated, "Marathi represents the pride of Maharashtra, akin to Gujarati in Gujarat or Bengali in Bengal. It is essential to honor regional languages. However, this is India. Individuals migrate from various states for employment. Not everyone can rapidly acquire a new language.
"We ought to encourage unity, not division. Let’s support one another and coexist peacefully. Instead of delving into language politics, let’s focus on enhancing infrastructure, healthcare, education, and public conduct. That’s what truly matters," Hrishikesh added.
Previously, actor Rajkummar Rao also shared insights on the ongoing discourse, stating that if there’s a significant concern, it should be addressed.
"However, expressing opinions on every issue isn’t obligatory. Just because one doesn’t share something on social media doesn’t imply a lack of concern. I have immense love for my country," remarked the 'Maalik' actor.
Furthermore, actor Shiv Thakare expressed that while knowing the local language is beneficial, it shouldn’t be imposed.
Thakare stated to IANS, "I believe that coercing individuals through aggression is ineffective. However, there should be a willingness to learn the language of the region where one resides and earns a living. Even when traveling abroad, I find myself using translation tools. A positive attitude towards such matters is essential."
Recently, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leaders Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray opposed the inclusion of Hindi as a third language in Marathi-medium and other government educational institutions.
