A Hyderabad realtor shot his wife dead at their residence in Malkajgiri on Wednesday, 10 June, in what police say was a dispute rooted in prolonged marital discord. The incident falls within the limits of Malkajgiri Police Station, under the Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate.

How the Incident Unfolded

Arun Kumar, a resident of Maruthi Nagar and a real estate businessman, arrived at the house in the morning, reportedly to discuss ongoing differences with his wife, Nisha Rani. During the argument, he opened fire on her. Nisha Rani died on the spot from gunshot injuries.

Arun Kumar fled the scene immediately after the shooting. According to police, another individual was reportedly accompanying the accused, and investigators suspect this person may have assisted in the killing. Locals who heard the gunfire alerted the police. The body of Nisha Rani was subsequently shifted to the mortuary of Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad for a post-mortem examination.

Background to the Marriage

The couple had been married for five years. Arun Kumar was previously married to Nisha Rani's elder sister, Swarnalatha, with whom he has two children. After divorcing Swarnalatha, he married her younger sister, Nisha Rani, in what was described as a love marriage. According to police, the couple had recently begun experiencing serious differences.

Notably, Arun Kumar was detained with a weapon during a vehicle check in the Amberpet area three months ago. Investigators suspect he subsequently procured another firearm through a personal contact.

Police Action and Investigation

A case has been registered and investigation is underway. Dedicated teams have been formed to apprehend Arun Kumar and his alleged accomplice. The weapon angle is being examined closely given his prior detention with an illegal firearm.

Separate Case: Illegal Adoption Racket Busted

In an unrelated development, Hyderabad Police dismantled an illegal adoption racket, rescuing a 12-day-old physically disabled baby boy who was allegedly sold for ₹1.7 lakh to a childless couple through middlemen.

A zero FIR was registered at Kulsumpura Police Station and later transferred to Nandigama Police Station in Ranga Reddy District on jurisdictional grounds. The formal complaint was filed on Tuesday by K. Ramu, an officer with the Women and Child Welfare Department, Hyderabad.

According to police, Madhusudhan and Meena, a couple who had been childless for approximately 18 years, approached one Potharaju Suresh to help procure a child. Suresh subsequently contacted Padma Paltiya. The infant was born on 28 May at a private hospital in Tukkuguda to Mohan and his wife Sandhya, who handed the newborn to Padma, described as a relative of the child's father. Investigation into the racket is ongoing.

Both cases reflect mounting concerns over law and order in Hyderabad's peripheral zones, and police have indicated that further arrests are expected in the coming days.
