Mumbai, Sep 7 (NationPress) The NESCO Center in Mumbai transformed into an extraordinary arena of endurance, strength, and community spirit last Sunday as HYROX, the global series of fitness racing, held its third edition in India. With more than 3,350 participants across Singles, Doubles, Relay, and Pro categories, this event established itself as the largest fitness race ever conducted in the nation.
The day-long event showcased the renowned HYROX race format: 8 x 1 km runs interspersed with 8 functional fitness workouts like SkiErg, Sled Push, Sled Pull, Burpee Broad Jumps, Rowing, Farmers Carry, Sandbag Lunges, and Wall Balls, challenging athletes of all skill levels to their limits.
The essence of HYROX Mumbai radiated in the incredible variety of its participants. From 16-year-old Shivanjali Mitkari from Pune, the youngest competitor, to 70-year-old Mohan Moyara from Surat, Gujarat, the oldest racer present, the event demonstrated that fitness transcends age. Adding to the excitement, popular singer Dhvani Bhanushali joined the Doubles category, racing alongside everyday athletes.
Prashant Arkal, a 40-year-old IT professional living with polio, participated in the Adaptives category from his wheelchair, embodying the true spirit of HYROX. His involvement highlights the sport's vision of inclusivity and its commitment to fostering a community where every athlete feels welcomed.
“Regardless of your age or ability, you should always strive for new challenges that push your limits. That's what makes HYROX special. At the registration area, everyone was amazed and cheering. It’s truly inspiring, especially if I motivate someone. Perhaps that's what makes HYROX a phenomenon; the energy here is palpable,” Prashant shared.
This vibrant mix of generations, backgrounds, and passions transformed the NESCO Center into more than just a race venue; it became a living, breathing fitness community. HYROX Mumbai was not solely focused on times and podium finishes, but on teammates and families cheering across age groups as the entire city celebrated the shared joy of movement.
Leanne M. and Danielle C., participants from the UK, returned for the second time to HYROX Mumbai, setting the course ablaze with a 1:02.23 finish in the Pro Women’s Doubles. "This is our second Mumbai race, and it went just as smoothly as the last one. The course was excellent, and the staff did a fantastic job. The way the stations are organized makes the course very seamless. I love how even strangers around the course cheer for you. Everyone is so joyful to be here, and the energy is fantastic. The crowd in Mumbai is amazing,” they remarked.
The excitement continued off the track, with PUMA India creating unique fan and athlete experiences in the Partner’s Zone, including braiding and tattoo stations, as well as customization booths. The PUMA x HYROX AH25 collection and new footwear were major attractions for athletes and fans alike.
Karthik Balagopalan, Managing Director of PUMA India, reflected on the occasion, stating, “HYROX has rapidly evolved into more than a mere fitness race; it’s becoming a culture. The energy, camaraderie, and enthusiasm displayed by participants in the last two editions demonstrate how India’s athletes and fitness enthusiasts have embraced HYROX. Mumbai thrives on passion and movement, and witnessing this community unite for the third edition is incredibly thrilling. As a leading sports brand in the country, PUMA is delighted to be part of a movement that is reshaping sport and fitness in India.”
With momentum building, HYROX will journey to the garden city in April 2026, hosting India’s inaugural two-day HYROX festival.
