New York, Oct 28 (NationPress) An Indian student whose visa status has lapsed allegedly lost control while aboard a flight to Germany and now faces charges for stabbing two teenagers and slapping a woman, as reported by federal prosecutor Leah Foley in Boston.
During the meal service on the Chicago-Frankfurt flight, Praneeth Kumar Usiripalli (28) reportedly stabbed a 17-year-old boy in the shoulder and another 17-year-old in the back of the head using a metal fork, according to a statement from her office on Monday.
Additionally, he allegedly slapped a woman and attempted to strike a flight attendant.
The plane was subsequently diverted to Boston, where Usiripalli was apprehended.
“As flight attendants tried to restrain him, Usiripalli reportedly raised his hand, shaped it like a gun, placed it in his mouth, and pretended to pull an imaginary trigger,” the prosecutor's office stated.
While a motive for his actions has not been disclosed, it was noted that Usiripalli, who entered the US on a student visa, currently lacks lawful status.
The institution he was associated with was not named, but he was said to be pursuing a master’s degree in biblical studies.
A LinkedIn profile under the same name indicates he is a student at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago.
This institute claims to “proclaim the gospel by equipping individuals to be biblically grounded and practically trained for gospel-centered living.”
According to its website, it asserts that it “reflects our belief that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, infallible Word of God essential to every area of life.”
The prosecutor’s office indicated that if Usiripalli is found guilty of assaulting an aircraft with a dangerous weapon with the intent to cause bodily harm, he may face up to ten years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
