Los Angeles, Dec 11 (NationPress) British actor Idris Elba has announced his intention to transition into full-time directing. He indicated that he will gradually step away from acting roles to concentrate on directing in the future.
The 53-year-old star is currently promoting the short film ‘Dust To Dreams’. Although this marks his first venture behind the camera since 2018, he expressed that directing is where he envisions his future, rather than in front of the camera, as reported by ‘Female First UK’.
During his appearance at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia, he mentioned, as quoted by ‘Daily Mail Online’, “I hope my fans as an actor won't be upset with me.”
“Ultimately, I want to fully transition into directing. I've been acting for quite some time. I still love it, but I believe that directing allows me to use different skills and engage with the set in a unique manner. I truly enjoy it,” he added.
According to ‘Female First UK’, his next project as a director is ‘This Is How It Goes’, inspired by a 2005 film by Neil LaBute and filmed in Ghana.
He elaborated, “The original story revolves around a Black man married to a white woman, and a white man moves in with them, impacting their relationship. I acquired the film rights and adapted the narrative. Now, it's about a white man married to a Black woman, with a Black man coming to live with them. It provides an insightful exploration of marriage, trust, and race.”
Idris Elba is celebrated for his powerful on-screen presence and effortless charm. He gained international acclaim for his role as Stringer Bell in ‘The Wire’, further establishing his reputation with performances in ‘Luther’, ‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom’, and prominent Hollywood franchises like ‘Thor’ and ‘Fast & Furious’.
He artfully combines physicality with emotional depth, navigating seamlessly between intense drama and action-packed blockbusters. Aside from acting, he is a talented DJ and producer, performing under the alias DJ Big Driis. His career reflects a dedication to diverse storytelling, innovative experimentation, and cultural impact.
