Chennai, July 18 (NationPress) Director and actress Nandita Das has made it abundantly clear that she remains deeply engaged in acting and that the misconception that her directorial work precludes her acting abilities is unfounded.
In a thoughtful post on her Instagram account, Nandita Das expressed, "I frequently receive inquiries – 'Do you still act?' So, let me declare it loud and clear – YES, I do! Just because I direct films doesn’t imply I can’t also act! In a society that champions being a ‘master of one’, the notion of being a Jack of all trades is often looked down upon. Why is that? What should I show? What if I enjoy juggling multiple passions? I am a Jack and I believe I can act! (I’ve shared a few photos from my films as a gentle reminder, in no specific order)."
She elaborated on her limited visibility in recent times, stating, "These days, acting is largely about visibility and social media presence as much as it is about talent. Perhaps even more so. I'm becoming more of a recluse, which doesn’t help. If something inspires me, I’ll take it on. If not, I’ll pass. Being selective can also be a hindrance. Fortunately, I have a myriad of other projects to pursue, not all under the media spotlight, and for that, I have no regrets."
Nandita mentioned that many emerging filmmakers often seek her support to produce their projects, saying, "I sincerely wish I could. But I find myself producing, not by choice, but by necessity. I only produce to secure creative freedom for my own endeavors. My ‘production office’ is typically just my dining table! If I had the finances, I would love to back young filmmakers with their fresh voices and narratives."
She wrapped up her post with a note, stating, "So yes – if compelling acting opportunities arise, or someone trusts me with a budget to produce films I believe in, I’m all ears. And if you have any ideas or leads, please send them my way!"
