Chennai, Dec 11 (NationPress) Acclaimed actress Nandita Das expressed her gratitude to director Deepa Mehta for casting her in the film 'Fire' without requiring an audition, while reminiscing about the film after nearly 25 years since its release. The movie, which sparked significant controversy due to its sensitive themes, was revisited by Das during her attendance at the Singapore Film Festival.

In a heartfelt post on Instagram, she shared, "I had the opportunity to watch Fire at @sgiffest on the big screen after over 25 years. It amazed me how vividly I recalled every detail - from my lines to those of my co-stars, the lighting, and the music! Watching it alongside Deepa made it even more special."

As they viewed the film together, the duo fondly reminisced about their experiences during filming. "We whispered memories to each other throughout the movie, as cherished moments flooded back. All the beautiful photographs were taken by @dilipmehtaconstantly."

Das reflected on the film's significance in her life, thanking Deepa Mehta for her role in shaping her career.

She remarked, "Fire was the starting point of my journey, not just as an actor but also as someone who sought to confront 'othering', fear, prejudice, and discrimination in various forms. I am grateful to @deepamehtaofficial for casting me without an audition! Our last day included a delightful meal in the lush surroundings of the Botanical Garden, surrounded by magnificent trees and waterfalls. It was a joyful three-day experience!"

For those unaware, 'Fire', released in 1996, was directed by Deepa Mehta and starred Shabana Azmi and Nandita Das. This romantic drama was groundbreaking for its portrayal of a lesbian relationship, which incited considerable controversy upon its release.
