Dhaka, April 13 (NationPress) Pranay Verma, the High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh, met with Zahir Uddin Swapon, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting of Bangladesh, on Monday to explore avenues for collaboration in the information and broadcasting sectors.

During their discussion, both parties concurred on the importance of facilitating media delegation exchanges between India and Bangladesh, aimed at fostering people-to-people connections and enhancing mutual understanding. Verma expressed India's commitment to working with the Bangladeshi government to bolster cooperation that focuses on the needs of the populace across various sectors.

The meeting, which took place on April 13, 2026, also encompassed a range of collaborative efforts in the media and broadcasting fields. The Indian High Commission in Bangladesh shared on X, "High Commissioner Pranay Verma visited Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon to discuss extensive cooperation in information and broadcasting, agreeing to increase media delegation visits to strengthen bilateral relations and mutual understanding."

Furthermore, the High Commissioner suggested numerous capacity-building initiatives for journalists and media personnel through the ITEC program of the Government of India. The Indian High Commission stated, "High Commissioner Pranay Verma paid a courtesy call on Minister Afroza Khanum Rita on April 9, 2026. Minister of State M Rashiduzzaman Millat was present as well. They discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation in civil aviation, improving air connectivity, increasing air cargo capacity, upgrading aviation infrastructure, and exploring capacity-building opportunities."

Verma informed the ministers about the significant advancements in India’s aviation sector, which has positioned India as the fastest-growing civil aviation market globally, presenting opportunities for collaborative progress in Bangladesh’s aviation sector.

On April 8, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with his Bangladeshi counterpart Khalilur Rahman in New Delhi, where they discussed the strengthening of bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and global developments.
