Beijing, Dec 7 (NationPress) The Indian Ambassador to China, Pradeep Kumar Rawat, alongside Consul General Pratik Mathur, celebrated the inauguration of the new Chancery for the Consulate General of India in Shanghai, located at the Dawning Centre in the Changning district. This marks the first change of office premises in over 32 years.

The Consulate General emphasized that this newer, expansive diplomatic platform in the core of Shanghai's consular district aims to deepen relations and enhance service delivery.

"New Beginnings, New Horizons in India-China relations— Scaling New Heights as India opens a new Consulate General. A momentous occasion as Ambassador Shri P.K. Rawat and CG Pratik Mathur inaugurated the new Chancery of CGI Shanghai—a larger, modern diplomatic platform in the heart of the city’s consular district, intended to fortify engagement and enhance service delivery," stated the Shanghai office on X.

The Consulate General highlighted that this initiative is aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of "Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas".

As per the announcement, Consul Generals from 30 countries and members of the Indian community were present at the ceremony. The event featured cultural displays from Indian students, artists, singers, and dancers, reflecting the unity of "Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat".

"The gathering included Consuls General from 30 countries, over 500 members of the vibrant Indian diaspora, and friends of India, celebrating this historic milestone. The event also highlighted the commercial potential of one of India's finest offerings: Indian Coffee," the mission mentioned in its post.

"A curated tasting introduced attendees to India’s remarkable coffee heritage—evocative, aromatic, and increasingly recognized across China’s coffee scene. The cultural performances by young Indian talents underscored the strength of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat. Jai Hind, Jai Bharat!" it continued.

During the inauguration, Mathur expressed gratitude to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and local Shanghai authorities for their support, reaffirming the Consulate’s dedication to providing seamless services for the Indian community and their Chinese partners.

He stressed the importance of enhancing India’s oldest consular presence in mainland China, noting the Dawning Centre’s prime location in the Hongqiao–Gubei foreign business corridor, which hosts numerous diplomatic missions and global corporations. The building’s proximity to the Hongqiao transportation hub and the Gubei international community further bolsters the Consulate’s growing engagement in East China, according to a statement from the Consulate General of India in Shanghai.

Mathur underscored the renewed vigor in India-China exchanges, stating that initiatives like the recently launched direct flights between India and Shanghai will further enhance trade, travel, and business ties, making the new Chancery’s capabilities especially timely.
