New Delhi, April 23 (NationPress) Emphasizing its unwavering commitment to combatting terrorism, India declared on Wednesday that those responsible for the Pahalgam terror attack will face justice, and their backers will be held accountable. The country also introduced several measures targeting Pakistan, which continues to support terrorism in the Kashmir Valley.

Following a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi that lasted over two hours, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri outlined various steps in response to the serious terrorist attack. These include the immediate suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 until Pakistan convincingly renounces its support for cross-border terrorism.

In addition, India has decided to close the Attari Integrated Checkpost, located approximately 28 km from Amritsar along the international border with Pakistan.

Misri stated, "Individuals who have valid endorsements may return via this route before May 1."

Furthermore, Pakistani nationals will no longer be allowed to enter India under the SAARC visa exemption scheme. Any previously issued Specific Purpose Work Visa (SPES) to Pakistani citizens is now considered null and void, and any Pakistani national in India under a SPES visa must depart within 48 hours.

The Foreign Secretary also announced that military and defense personnel at the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi have been declared persona non grata and must exit India within a week.

India will also withdraw its own defense and military advisors from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, effectively nullifying these positions.

According to Misri, "Five support staff from the Service Advisors will also be withdrawn from both High Commissions. The total number of personnel at the High Commissions will be cut down to 30 from the current 55, with further reductions planned by May 1."

The CCS was provided a detailed briefing on the Pahalgam terrorist attack, which claimed the lives of 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen, with many others injured.

The CCS condemned the attack in the strongest possible terms, extending its deepest condolences to the victims' families and wishing a swift recovery for the injured. The CCS acknowledged this sentiment, which underscores a zero tolerance policy towards terrorism.

In reviewing the overall security landscape, the CCS mandated all forces to remain highly vigilant.

It was resolved that those responsible for this attack will face justice, along with their sponsors. Similar to the recent extradition of Tahawwur Rana, India will relentlessly pursue those who commit or conspire to carry out acts of terror," remarked Misri.
