New Delhi, Feb 6 (NationPress) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) expressed its heartfelt congratulations to the India Under-19 Men’s cricket team for their remarkable achievement in securing the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2026 held in Harare, Zimbabwe. This victory marks a historic sixth title for India in this prestigious tournament for young cricketers.

In an official statement, the BCCI remarked, "This victory in Zimbabwe reinforces India’s status as the most successful nation in the tournament's history and completes a rare double, with India holding both the ICC Under-19 Men’s and Women’s World Cup titles simultaneously. This achievement is a testament to the BCCI’s unwavering commitment to structured player development and excellence at grassroots and age-group levels. The BCCI sincerely appreciates Head Coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar and his dedicated support staff for their guidance and clarity throughout the tournament."

The BCCI also acknowledged the significant contributions of VVS Laxman, recognizing his vision and roadmap for India's age-group cricket ecosystem.

During the match, India opted to bat first but faced an early setback with the loss of Aaron George for just 9 runs. However, Sooryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre formed a formidable partnership, amassing 142 runs together, with skipper Mhatre scoring 53 off 51 balls. Sooryavanshi took center stage, scoring an impressive 175 runs off just 80 balls, featuring 15 fours and 15 sixes. He reached his century in a mere 55 balls and 150 in 71. Late support from Kanishk Chouhan, who scored 37 off 20 balls, helped India finish with a total of 411/9.

England began their chase promisingly, with commendable performances from Ben Dawkins, scoring 66, and Mayes with 45. Caleb Falconer played exceptionally well, scoring 115 off 67 balls, aiding England to recover from a precarious 177/7 to reach 311 runs. However, India’s bowlers, notably RS Ambrish with 3 wickets for 56 runs and Deepesh Devendran with 2 wickets, ensured a comfortable victory for India.
