Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 7 (NationPress) The BCCI has declared a substantial cash award of Rs 7.5 crore for the victorious U19 Men's Cricket World Cup team, along with the technical staff and the selection committee, as stated by the board's secretary, Devajit Saikia, in an announcement to IANS on Saturday.
India triumphed over England by 100 runs to secure the ICC Under-19 Men's Cricket World Cup title at the Harare Sports Club in Harare on Friday, marking their record-extending sixth U19 World Cup victory.
“A cash award amounting to Rs 7.5 crore will be awarded to the Indian team that clinched the U19 Men's Cricket World Cup in Zimbabwe and Namibia. We are finalizing the specifics regarding the distribution of this prize among players, technical staff, and the selection committee, but the total reward from BCCI stands at Rs 7.5 crore,” Saikia informed IANS.
A remarkable century from 14-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi propelled India to their ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup triumph. Contributions from captain Ayush Mhatre (53) and wicketkeeper Abhigyan Kundu (40) were also crucial as India amassed 411/9. Although England started strong, a middle-order collapse proved detrimental, leaving Caleb Falconer’s impressive 115 as insufficient as India secured their sixth U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup title.
This championship achievement completes a rare double, with India currently holding both the ICC Under-19 Men’s and Women’s World Cup titles.
Saikia also mentioned that BCCI will shortly unveil the central contracts for senior men and women players, stating, “An official announcement regarding the central contracts for senior men's and women's players will be released very soon.”
Earlier, Saikia extended congratulations to the Indian youth for their record-extending sixth U19 World Cup title, asserting, “This remarkable accomplishment is a reflection of a robust system focused on long-term player development, competitive domestic structures, quality coaching programs supported by dedicated technical staff, and a strong talent identification process.
“Age-group cricket is a priority, and the BCCI will persist in investing in and fortifying these foundations for the future. Well done, boys! The nation takes immense pride in you,” he shared on X.
