Mumbai, Nov 3 (NationPress) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially revealed a remarkable cash prize of Rs 51 crore for the players, support staff, and selection committee, celebrating India’s first-ever victory at the ICC Women’s World Cup.

Under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, India secured the ODI championship after triumphing over South Africa by 52 runs in the final held at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai this past Sunday.

“In commemoration of this exceptional achievement, the BCCI has granted a cash prize of INR 51 crore for the players, support staff, and selection committee, acknowledging their extraordinary performance, commitment, and contributions to the nation’s sporting excellence,” the board stated.

“Additionally, the BCCI wishes to recognize Jay Shah, who has served admirably as the Honorary Secretary of the BCCI and now holds the position of Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). During his time with the BCCI, Shah advocated for numerous initiatives aimed at enhancing women’s cricket, including the development of domestic structures, the launch of elite competitions, and improvements in infrastructure.

“As the ICC Chairman, he has vigorously supported gender equality in the sport. Under his guidance, the ICC declared a historic increase in prize money for the Women’s World Cup, affirming that women cricketers will receive the same recognition as their male counterparts,” the statement continued.

The remarkable evolution of women’s cricket in India—from humble beginnings to global recognition—is significantly attributed to his unwavering vision and dedication to professionalizing the women’s game, nurturing a talent pipeline capable of achieving international success.
