Kabul/New Delhi, Oct 21 (NationPress) India has officially declared that it has elevated the status of its Technical Mission in Kabul to that of the Embassy of India in Afghanistan effective immediately.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) emphasized that this decision highlights India’s commitment to enhancing its bilateral relations with Afghanistan across various areas of shared interest.
"Following the agreement made during the recent visit of the Afghan Foreign Minister to India, the Government is upgrading the Technical Mission of India in Kabul to the status of the Embassy of India in Afghanistan effective immediately," stated the MEA.
"This move signifies India’s determination to strengthen its bilateral cooperation with Afghanistan in all areas of mutual concern. The Embassy of India in Kabul will significantly boost India’s role in Afghanistan’s comprehensive development, humanitarian aid, and capacity-building projects, aligning with the needs and aspirations of Afghan society," it added.
On October 10, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar engaged in extensive discussions with the Afghan Foreign Minister, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, in New Delhi, covering a broad spectrum of mutual interests and key regional developments.
The EAM reaffirmed India’s enduring friendship with the Afghan populace and emphasized the deep cultural and historical connections between the two nations. He also reiterated India’s unwavering commitment to support the dreams and developmental requirements of the Afghan citizens.
"India is steadfast in its dedication to the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence of Afghanistan. Our strengthened cooperation is vital for your national progress and for fostering regional stability and resilience. To further this, I am delighted to share today the upgrade of India’s Technical Mission in Kabul to the status of the Embassy of India," stated EAM Jaishankar during his opening remarks in the meeting with Afghanistan's Foreign Minister.
